Socia-Tability is an interactive installation that mixes reality and virtuality, technology and poetry. The wooden table top becomes the medium for a universe of projections changing in real time. Various black-and-white and multicolor graphic pictures appear randomly, one after the other. Pixels, networks of lines, meshes and curves appear one after the other, rippling before our eyes. These virtual universes interact with visitors, who caress the table with their hands. Hand movements upset the apparent order of the pixels which start to move about in all directions. Straight lines break up, blend in with the veins of the wood, and come to form abstract landscapes. Amoeba-like cells give way around one’s hand, revealing a variety of superimposed screens.
This work is in keeping with the tradition of Kinetic Art and Op Art artists, who conducted research on movement and optical illusions and whose work prefigured screens of pixels and today’s digital universe. Astounding kinetic universes are thereby created. The moving shapes seem to acquire volume on this flat surface.
This new work fosters an intuitive approach to interactivity. Interactivity invites us to express ourselves and to reconnect with our senses. It allows us to feel the sensuality of matter and light. This tangible techno-work plays on our emotions as well as our sensations. We cannot resist the desire to draw near, touch it, and interact along with others.
