Voyages is a work which uses a software program developed in collaboration with Éric Wenger to generate an infinite series of virtual topographies. The work is an endless traveling shot over the earth's surface. These abstract landscapes alternate between clay valleys, deserts and sand dunes. Snow-capped peaks are rendered in hyper-realistic detail, reminiscent of the landscape painting of Caspar David Friedrich. Breaking with the ordered regularity of the Euclidian universe, fractal geometry allows us to invent irregular, endlessly changing coastlines, cloud formations, or serpentine city streets. Fractal algorithms reinvent the Baroque pictorial style and provide a non-Euclidian reformulation of topography and geography.
